Charles Ogg

bio pictureI began my craft as a hobby, carving fish sculptures from wood in my garage nearly twenty years ago; showing in wildlife art shows and galleries. From there I completed a seven year apprenticeship with Charles Shackleton Furniture.  As an independent furniture maker, I have combined my love of carving with the traditions of handcrafted furniture techniques to create unique pieces that are both functional and artistic. Working mostly with carefully selected North American hardwoods, I have designed and crafted a variety of custom pieces, more often than not embellished with carving. I am practiced at making kitchen dressers, chests of drawers, bookcases, mantels, armoires, entertainment centers, end tables, extending tables, benches, chairs and more. I take considerable time and effort to design and create unique heirloom furniture that fit my client’s desires.
Artist’s Statement

I love the work that I do. I am the third generation of the Crafts Movement.
Starting with the likes of Sam Maloof, James Krenov, Wharton Esherick, George Nakashima.

Then came Charles Shackleton, Thomas Moser, Judy Kensley McKie, Berkley Design and so on.

“When we build, let us think that we build forever. Let it not be for the present delight, nor for the present use alone; let it be such work as our descendants will thank us for, and let us think, as we lay stone on stone (join board to board), that a time is to come when those stones (and boards) will be held sacred because our hands have touched them, and that men will say as they look upon the labor and wrought substance of them, See! This our fathers did for us.”
John Ruskin, The Seven Lamps of Architecture
